A part of the Hawaiian archipelago, Kauai, is a sparsely populated city. However that should not underestimate the scenic beauty and the vast stretches of beautiful coastlines of this place. Each town in Kauai has its own charm which attracts thousands of tourists to it all through the year.

Kapaa

Kapaa is a town situated in the east of Kauai. With a population of about 10000 people this is the most populated town of Kauai. It is the main tourist attraction and is the perfect destination in Kauai to go shopping. You could also find a number of hotels and restaurants here. The beaches of Kapaa are less crowded than other places in Kauai. However, because of water currents they are not very safe to go swimming. Kapaa has an interesting formation on Nounou mountain range. The formation is called a “Sleeping Giant” and is formed on a coconut tree. You can spot this structure from anywhere in Kapaa.

Lihue

Lihue is the capital of Kauai and is a small residential town. The population of this place is around 5000 people .You can spot a number of dining and shopping options here including the well known brands like Wal-Mart and Kmart. Lihue also has an airport and you need to book your flight to Lihue when you visit Kauai. The Nawiliwili harbour, Kalapaki beach and the Kauai museum are the major tourist attractions here

Poipu

Poipu is located in south Kauai and is the most popular tourist town here. You can spot a number of resorts and luxury accommodations lining the ocean. The Shipwreck Beach and the Poipu beach draw a lot of crowd. It is the perfect place to relax in the lap of luxury

Wailua

Wailua is a small town located in east Kauai and is famous for the Wailua River which flows through the town. The Fren Grotto is also a must see place here which can be accessed by a boat or a kayak. Wailua is a small, laid back town and is the perfect place to escape the mad hustle and bustle of the city and spend a quiet vacation

Waimea

Waimea town is famous for the Captain Cook monument. In the year 1778 the British sailor Captain Cook entered the Waimea harbour and changed the history of Hawaii. There are a number of old buildings and churches here which are worth a visit

Hanalei

Hanalei is located on the north shore and is known for shopping, dining and entertainment. It is built on a crescent shaped bay which is worth admiration

Koloa

Koloa is where the first sugar plantation was setup in Kauai. Stop by to appreciate the old sugar mills here and get an insight into the sugar industry.

Hanapepe

Hanapepe, located in west Kauai, boasts of a great shopping and some fine dining restaurants. It is famous for its art and the slogan when you enter this town ‘Kauai’s biggest little town” is bound to attract you.
